A small boy expects to find the cat at the door but instead is confronted by a missing cat, replaced by a large dog clinging to the security door.

Having owned a cat for many years, I’m no stranger to opening a door or blind to be confronted by a furry feline at eye level, demanding entry and or food, often by crying and rattling the flywire for dramatic effect. It fast became annoying and tended to damage the wire mesh.

This seems to be a common (or favourite) pastime of cats or maybe it’s part of their job description. But what happens when the cat becomes ill and can’t make it to “cat on door” duty? No doubt a temporary replacement would be required for the missing cat and I thought it would be nice to have a big dog on the security door to fill the void.

The drawing attached is my impression of how a missing cat might look. Alas it’s only a black and white image at the moment due to lack of time and other commitments, but I do intend to come back and colour it when I get a chance.

The dog that modelled for me was an Old English Mastiff. I didn’t have access to the real deal and if I had, having it pose on the door as illustrated probably would have taken the door off its hinges. It was more convenient to just look at a picture online instead.

I don’t think I’ve done it justice with regard to size. They are extremely large dogs.
